Southern Nevada Health District officials met Monday in response to the closure of two Las Vegas Valley charter schools due to outbreaks of a gastrointestinal illness, possibly norovirus.

Dr. Eve Breier, principal of Imagine Schools at Mountain View in Las Vegas, said about 10 percent of its 670 students called in sick each day over the past week and a half, prompting closure of the school on Monday and Tuesday.

(BPT) - Spring cleaning is a seasonal tradition. You've been setting house projects aside all winter, and now's the perfect time to make sure the warm weather season starts with a cleaner, happier home. So open the windows, turn on your favorite song, and start your spring cleaning with these five to-dos.

Five indoor projects to add to spring cleaning list

    * Clear the clutter. Removing excess clutter is a great cleaning tip any time of year, but finishing this task when the weather was colder may not have been as tempting. Tackle your home room by room and analyze the items you find. If you haven't used something in a year or more, it's time for it to go.

    * Freshen up the floors. After a season of tracking dirt, snow and mud, your floors could use some attention. If the damage is minor, a thorough vacuuming will do the trick. If the wear and tear is more significant, you may need a more comprehensive solution. If you have carpet, renting a carpet cleaner allows you to tackle the job yourself, saving you money over hiring a professional or purchasing your own machine. And if you have hardwood or tile floors, rent a floor buffer. It's the easiest way to give your floors back their shine in no time.

A company will pay you £45 an hour to clean houses

A naked maid service has been criticised for offering topless cleaning on a holiday island.

Maid on the Isle of Wight charges customers £85 an hour for a naked woman to clean their home, while a topless maid costs £65.

The firm also offers nude hostesses or butlers, ladies dressed as French maids and even allows people to get naked themselves while watching a clothed cleaner work.

A student organization is demanding GW offer better benefits to custodial workers.

Fair Jobs GW – a student-run campaign to push for better treatment of GW’s workers – met with officials last week to make demands for improved working conditions on behalf of janitorial workers. Members of the group said the workers are overworked and fear losing their jobs after officials have made staffing cuts and relied more heavily on third-party contractors in recent years.

Henry Klapper, an organizer for Fair Jobs GW and a former Hatchet reporter, said janitorial workers told members of the organization that the University is now understaffed and relies on contracted workers.

On any given day, Leo Zaverukha’s booming voice echoes through the Mountain View High School halls that he mops and across the fields that he mows.

Some days it’s Russian folk songs. On others, he serenades students with American classics or Christian hymns. Either way, he’s tough to miss.

A Ukrainian, Zaverukha came to the United States in 1996 after his parents fled from Russia as refugees. He first settled in California before getting the job at Mountain View in Meridian in 2005. He’s been a fixture ever since.

A janitorial airline contractor at Los Angeles International Airport and more than a dozen of its employees have settled a case alleging their supervisor improperly prohibited them from speaking Spanish during work hours and breaks.

Attorneys for lead plaintiff Irma Espinoza and the other Gate Gourmet workers filed a notice of dismissal of the lawsuit last week in Los Angeles Superior Court and a notice of settlement in March. No terms were divulged.

In May 2015, the janitors sued Gate Gourmet — which provides cabin cleaning and restocking services to Delta Air Lines at LAX — accusing the company of failing to prevent the discriminatory policy.

The suit alleged unlawful workplace language policy, harassment, failure to prevent discrimination and national origin discrimination.

PETERSBURG, Va. -- Cleanup continues at a medical waste services building in Petersburg, where an explosion caused the building to partially collapse last month.

The explosion at Curtis Bay Medical Waste Services in the 1900 block of Puddledock Road injured three people.

Two weeks later, part of the building is still unsafe for investigators who are still trying to figure out what exactly happened that day.

Howard Burnette says he won’t ever forget March 31, 2017.

“'It was a very, very scary day,” he said.

Burnette, who works next door to Curtis Bay Medical Waste Services, was outside changing tires when a piece of debris flew across his face.

Over the last month, janitorial and cleaning supply companies have been targeted by scammers in six states – Montana, Texas, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Illinois and Maine. The scheme involves, Waterford Management, a company with a bogus address listed in Minneapolis, MN. The company orders cleaning supplies, either by phone or online, to be picked up by a third-party shipper. The company keeps prospective vendor’s suspicions at bay with spotless credit applications and plenty of supporting documentation. They also created three fictitious online entities to vouch for them as references and appear to have a bank account Minnesota. The company kept a small amount of funds in that account, so the bank will confirm that they do have an account there. To date victimized businesses have lost more than $150,000 in this scam.

Be on the alert for anyone who tries to place an order for products in the name of this company. Inform employees to look out for this scam and what should be done. Best Practice: Require any company placing an order for the first time to pay upfront via credit card. In this way, you will be able to confirm payment before shipping the order.
