In the vacation rental industry, there may be a time when you will come across a bloodborne pathogen. Bloodborne pathogens are pathogenic microorganisms that are present in human blood and can cause disease in humans. These pathogens include but are not limited to, Hepatitis B Virus (HBV) and Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) (associated with AIDS). Bloodborne pathogens are spread through direct contact (blood, bodily fluids), indirect contact (i.e. a needlestick), and respiratory droplet transmission (sneeze or cough).

Cleaning technicians must know where bloodborne pathogens may exist. Whether handling trash that contains used syringes, handling laundry soiled with blood, or cleaning up after a sick person it is important to always take precautions by assuming bodily fluids may contain a bloodborne pathogen.

Knowing and applying universal precautions can eliminate exposure to bloodborne pathogens. Cleaning technicians must know what to do if they encounter or have been exposed to a bloodborne pathogen. Proper disinfecting of bloodborne pathogens eliminates the exposure for future guests.

Bloodborne pathogen certification and company training will prepare you with the necessary tools and equipment to carry out your job successfully.

Switching to "green" or natural cleaning products can make a significant difference in not only you and your family's life but also in the environment around you. Using green products will result in better health, especially respiratory, as well as giving you clean conscience of not harming the environment when you clean. With natural ingredients, you eliminate the health and ecosystem risks that come with using the harmful chemicals found in everyday cleaners.

These toxic chemicals like bleach, ammonia, and other household cleaners are extremely detrimental to our health and to the world we live in. The production, distribution, and use of these products harms the users and pollutes the air/environment around them. Constant inhalation or skin contact with a toxic chemical like Chlorine can cause long-term health issues such as respiratory issues, loss of eye sight, and many skin issues. Additionally, when these products are made and used they release even more toxic gasses into the air. When these synthetic chemicals are introduced into a natural environment, the ecosystem there is thrown off balance and the toxicity could potentially destroy it.

Fortunately, we have advanced far enough in science and health to know that these chemicals are toxic and what can be used in place of them. With the technology we have, we can create natural cleaners that aren't harmful to us or the environment and still work just as well as the synthetic ones. Furthermore, there are natural ingredients that exist already and can be used in place of these toxic ones. Some natural products that can be used as cleaners are lemon, baking soda, vinegar, borax, and many other household products. Many of these substances can be mixed to create your own natural cleaners.

Using or creating your own natural cleaners is easy and effective. Doing this will also keep you and your family safe from the risks of toxic chemicals. Although, its important to really look at the natural cleaners you purchase to determine if its actually a green cleaner. Many companies say that their products are natural when in reality they still contain loads of harmful ingredients or are made in an unethical way. This is called greenwashing and you should thoroughly investigate any company that claims to be all natural before using their products. All natural companies will be completely transparent about their business operations and should have all the information you need on their websites.

Making the switch to natural cleaning may take some time but every step towards going natural is a step in the right direction. Going all natural only has benefits and keeps you safe while cleaning. By doing this, you are singlehandedly making the world a better place to live in. Make the switch to green cleaning today!

It is important for cleaning employees and staff to know about BBP because anyone exposed are at risk for serious or life-threatening illnesses. All employees who are exposed or at risk for exposure should learn from the training exposure determination, exposure control plans, the effectiveness of personal protective equipment, and universal precautions,  when handling potentially hazard materials. Employees and staff should understand transmission methods, as it's important part of the BBP training so they are able to protect themselves and others. They should know what to look for and what to do in case of - exposure and follow-up after exposure. Employees should understand the importance of the training and when/how to apply the training.

When we are speaking about the customer service surrounding our cleaning and janitorial businesses it is important to emphasize that " The Customer is Always Right'. Keeping it in the back of your mind at all times will not always be easy with disgruntled customers, however, the one job that requires you to go above and beyond ( sometimes requiring a full refund to an unhappy customer) will save you time and money by cutting your losses and moving on. Keeping in mind a more personal view of the cleaning services you are providing while being empathetic to the customers situation is key. Putting yourself in the shoes of a loved one having to deal with the grief of a loved ones passing whether it be by suicide, murder, or chronic illness is key. No matter the situation the clean up is revolving around, we take into consideration the mental relief we can provide our customers who are grieving and no longer have to deal with the mess involved around their personal and individual tragedy. Treating customers also with respect, dignity, and compassion as though this were your family or yourself helps in situations that would otherwise be deemed unthinkable and trying to the customer. As a specialty cleaner we can dignify and rectify the situation with privacy and shed a light at the end of the dark tunnel of the parts of life that most choose to ignore. Customers come first in mind and centered in our hearts which will show through our great customer service and confidence from the training we become certified in using ijcsa.org. Whether it be mold, feces, bloodborne pathogens, disease, neglect we can evaluate and correct the situation at hand.
