Being an owner of a small business In Houston Texas, I believe it is important for a cleaning company to be certified and knowledgeable in mold and remediation.   Because of our geographical location, we have experienced a lot of mold. So  by adding a mold service, we believe that we can service our clients on a more professional level.  Allowing our client to have more than one option for cleaning.  Alone with our professional cleaning service,  this would help them to have more reliable professional service.

The importance of knowing about bloodborne pathogens is NOT only for the safety in the workplace but is also a vital part of not contracting or spreading the disease. Although, in my profession we are not as exposed to blood borne pathogens as much as a medical professional but exposure is still possible which is why it is very important to understand how to operate in such an environment by knowing what bloodborne pathogens are and how it enters the body, which helps create a safe work environment.

Understanding how to prevent or limit exposure to bloodborne pathogen in the workplace with proper procedures can help prevent contracting and or spreading disease.

So, what is a Bloodborne pathogen? I have come to learn that bloodborne pathogens are microorganisms that are present in human blood that may cause diseases such as HBV, HIV, and HCV, these diseases can lead to illness and in some cases even death.

I also understand that taking proper Universal Precautions such as wearing protective equipment, not eating, drinking, smoking or applying lip balm in an affected area can help protect you and reduce the potential of spreading the disease.

Understanding the responsibility an employer has in regards to keeping and enforcing these guidelines help us to better appreciate the care that we should not only exercises for our fellow employees but for ALL people in general!

My name is Ana Malone the owner of a small cleaning business and I want to protect my staff from any hazards they may encounter on the job.I t is important for cleaning staff to know about blood-borne pathogens because they could potentially come into contact with them. Blood born pathogens are infectious pathogenic microorganisms in human blood that cause diseases. There are many different blood-borne pathogens, including malaria, syphilis, and brucellosis, and most notably, hepatitis B (HBV), hepatitis C (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). While performing routine cleaning duties a Busy B employee may need to dispose of infectious materials.

When cleaning, removing trash, or doing laundry my employees may come into contact with blood or other infectious materials on sinks, first aide boxes, or sharp objects that need to be disposed of. Cleaning standards provided by OSHA must be taught to ensure that the risk of exposure to my employees is lowered or eliminated.  It is important to understand that properly disposing of infectious materials is a matter of life and death.

Busy B employees will follow universal precautions by assuming that all material is hazardous. We will wash our hands frequently, cover any open cuts with band-aides, wear protective gloves, goggles, and any PPE necessary to the job. We wear PPE when handling contaminated laundry and take care not to smash the trash bags down into trash cans. Employees will be taught to clean and disinfect an area to ensure that pathogens are contained and surfaces are decontaminated so no one else is exposed to the pathogens.Busy B only uses CDC approved cleaners to clean up blood borne pathogens.

When sick people infected with diseases that can be transmitted by body fluids like influenzas and coronavirus for example search medical attention in this facility they can easy contaminated areas to where they pass.

Depending on the kind of bacteria and virus and the surfaces where this microorganism can be live for many days or even longer. As individuals touch surfaces that are infect and they touch they eye, mount or eat something with infect hands they will probably being infect also.

If the cleaning it is not done effective the spread of the microorganism not only will be continued but also increase significant. For example, if the cleaning is one with the wrong product or if the correct product is not left long enough in the surfaces and some towel is used to clean these harms microorganisms will be place every place the towel touches.

This is why is so important that the cleaning is done properly by someone that is properly trained and certify so the disinfected and sanitation will be done corrective and this way the infections prevention will be effected.

The procedures and understanding its importance when handling bloodborne pathogens are imperative. For the safety of the staff and everyone in contact with the responder after the potentially effected area is contained. In many emergency situations, the basic procedures has proven to work. But often time venturing away from the procedure can be costly. This is why it is crucial to understand the importance of procedures and following the guidelines, beginning with PPE.

Personal Protective Equipment is the first line of defense for the staff. Clear concise knowledge of proper equipment and its use, decreases the chance of the responder being exposed to the potentially effected area. Knowledge of proper disinfectant use, coupled with proper disposal of all PPE involved can be a life saver. When bloodborne pathogens are involved, the staff must respect and rely on the effectiveness of the procedure, reliability of PPE and be aware of the knowledge of bloodborne pathogens. Knowledge of what you're dealing with is the first remedy for a positive outcome.

Knowledge of bloodborne pathogens is extremely important for janitorial staff or anyone who's faced with possible exposure. Precautionary measures or reactive safety procedures are rooted in the know. The knowledge will equip the cleaning staff with the ability to protect themselves from being infected with a potentially life threatening disease, while aiding in the support of others in the same manner. This creates the advantage of a progressively safe situation. The wisdom of how to handle the situation is what will guarantee a productive outcome for both the staff, parties and/or potential parties involved.

It was my first investment property.  A friend had house that was left to him and had been essentially unattended for going on seven years.  He desperately needed to get out of the property and another friend and I were looking to make use of some extra time we had.  Our first walk through of the house to do a general inspection and what do we see in the garage?  Black mold climbing the walls and all over items that had obviously water damaged.

Knowing we had to first properly clean up this mess, we made sure we had a good stock of gloves, safety googles and clean air filters for our respirators.  While I had cleaned some minor bathroom mold at home this was a different beast.  We did our homework and came across Sporicidin (information here).  Well let me say, this worked wonders!  After cleaning the garage thoroughly, we were able to work safely in the house for the next several months.  The remodel took much longer and much more money than we had ever expected.  In learning about black mold, I knew that if we didn't get it all done properly, we'd end up having it return which just couldn't happen.  Well, five years later and one very good and happy tenant-I/we've never seen mold again.  If you could have been there day one, you'd cringe just as I do sometimes before I go in.

As we move to open a mold remediation department, this will be a staple in our chemical inventory.  Don't clean up mold without it!  You'll thank me later!

As an IJCSA member, we've been considering adding a Mold Remediation department to our team.  Over time, we've had multiple inquiries about this type of work and given today's virus outbreak and the similarities, we're going to get out technicians trained.  We currently have our Operation team getting trained so we can ensure we can deliver a full service solution as we do with all of our other offerings.

Proper mold remediation is a very critical part in restoring a home or office after a disaster.  Our team will not only get certified through IJCSA but we will also institute a recurring toolbox topic and training schedule to ensure we are always on the top of our game.  Our leadership team will also be making the capital investment in necessary PPE and work tools to protect our staff while cleaning up these types of situations safely.
