“Sediment builds up over time at the bottom of the tank, causing corrosion,” says John Bodrozic, co-founder of HomeZada. “Partially draining it removes the sediment and keeps the heater running more efficiently—and keeps it running longer.”
Ducts in either the attic or crawl space can sag over time, and then the connections become loose. “If this happens, you end up spending more on utility costs because the air you’re paying to heat or cool is escaping from the loose ductwork into the attic or crawl space, not into your living space,” Bodrozic says.
Your fridge – Move your refrigerator out from the wall and clean the back side of the refrigerator and the flooring under the refrigerator. Find the location of the refrigerator’s coils by checking the owner’s manual. Sometimes they’re on the back of the appliance; sometimes they’re under a toe grill at the front of the fridge. You may have to remove a panel or grill.
Then pull the plug on the electricity, gently dust the coils with a rag or brush and vacuum the coils. When dirt and dust builds up on coils, it takes more electricity to keep food cold. You’ll also want to replace the filter on your refrigerator water dispenser every six months.
You might also take all the food out of your refrigerator and wipe the surfaces of the interior with a water solution that includes baking soda or vinegar. Throw away food that’s been around too long.
Your oven — There are several possibilities
CINCINNATI -- Every weekday morning for the last eight years, Bob Cook has unlocked the doors of Sands Montessori School at 5:30 and polished the floors until they shine "like glass."
"I come in and do my job so that kids come to a clean school," the longtime custodian affectionately known as "Mr. Bob" said. "I just want to be a role model and hope they come back in 10 years, shake my hand when they go to college, you know?"

While Seattle University students were hard at work during last quarter’s dead week, studying for finals and gearing up for the spring break to come, a demonstration went unseen and untalked about for over a month, despite taking place directly on campus.
One month ago, WFF custodians at Seattle U took part in a union rally attempting to call attention to the issues they face and to bring into the public eye their ongoing negotiations with WFF Facility Services. The demonstration was organized by the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) Local 6.

JANITORIAL WORKERS PROTEST OUTSIDE TATE MODERN
Tate Modern’s current exhibition, “Picasso—Love, Fame, Tragedy,” which received major funding from the London-based investment firm of Ernst & Young (EY), is being protested by janitorial workers, writes Alec Evans of the Art Newspaper. Members of the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain (IWGB) held up signs and distributed fliers outside the museum on April 14 to “make people aware of how these low paid migrant workers are being treated,” said a representative from the IWGB.

1. Household Cleaning Products
Most people automatically associate spring cleaning with the use of household cleaning products.
